Solve a problem from a photo with AI

Take a photo of the problem from a textbook or notebook. The AI works through it step by step, explains why each step is done that way and answers questions if something is unclear. Maths, physics, chemistry, English.

Photograph a problem

Solving from a photo is part of the free Starter plan: 30 units of energy, and one problem usually takes 1–2. The photo and request go into the chat after sign-up.

A phone photo of an algebra textbook problem: the equation 3(x − 2) = 2x + 5 circled in pencil

The equation 3(x − 2) = 2x + 5

  1. Expand the brackets on the left: 3x − 6 = 2x + 5.
  2. Move 2x to the left and −6 to the right, changing the signs: 3x − 2x = 5 + 6.
  3. Collect like terms: x = 11.
  4. Check: 3(11 − 2) = 27 and 2·11 + 5 = 27. It matches.

Answer: x = 11. Ask “why does the sign change when a term moves across”, and the AI explains it separately.

A short guide

How to take the photo so it is solved the first time

Most wrong solutions start with a bad shot: the AI read an “8” as a “3” or missed a minus sign on the fold of the page.

  1. 1

    One problem in the frame

Not the whole page, just the problem. If there are several, write the number in the request: “solve no. 412”.

  2. 2

    Light and focus

Shoot from above in daylight, without the phone’s shadow. Fractions, subscripts and powers must be readable.

  3. 3

    Handwriting — double-check

If the problem is from a notebook, the AI first rewrites it as text. Check the numbers before reading the solution.

  4. 4

Say how to lay it out

“Lay it out like at school: given, solution, answer” or “just the idea, no calculations”. The answer adapts to the format.

How it differs from answer keys

An explanation, not just an answer

An answer key only has results for one particular textbook. The AI solves any problem, including one with your own numbers, and answers “but why”.

Answer keySolving from a photo in TryChat
A problem from your own test or worksheet
Answer key: No, only textbook exercises
Solving from a photo in TryChat: Yes, any problem from a photo
An explanation of every step
Answer key: Usually just the working
Solving from a photo in TryChat: Yes, with the rule or formula each step relies on
Follow-up questions
Answer key: No
Solving from a photo in TryChat: “Explain step three in more detail”, “solve it another way”, “give me a similar problem to practise”
Grammar: an explanation, not just the filled gaps
Answer key: The answer only
Solving from a photo in TryChat: The rule, an example, and why the other option is wrong

Who it is for

Parents and students

For parents

Your child brought home physics homework, and the last time you solved one of these was twenty years ago. Take a photo of the problem and ask: “Explain it so I can explain it to a seventh-grader”. You get the solution and hints on which questions to ask so the child reaches the answer on their own. To check homework, upload a photo of the notebook and write “check the solution and point out the mistake without giving the answer”.

For students

Integrals, limits, mechanics problems, reaction equations, circuit analysis. Take a photo of the assignment and ask for a solution that justifies every step. If your lecturer requires a particular method, say so: “use Gaussian elimination”, “use conservation of energy”. For labs, upload the table of measurements and ask it to calculate the errors.

Honestly

The AI can make arithmetic mistakes. Check

Language models build the logic of a solution well, but multiplying 47 by 23 in their head can go wrong, just as for a person. These rules remove most problems.

Ask it to recalculate

Write “recalculate everything and check the answer by substitution”. The AI goes through the steps again and finds the discrepancy itself.

Check the problem statement

In its first message the AI rewrites the problem from the photo. If a number there is wrong, the whole solution will be about a different problem.

Read the explanation, not just the answer

If a step looks odd, ask about it. There will be no chat next to you in the test, but the understanding stays.

Drawings and graphs

The AI solves geometry with a drawing, but it may misread an angle or a length from the picture. Repeat the data as text in the request.

What it costs

Solving from a photo with AI for free

It is a text scenario, so it is part of the free Starter plan. Paid plans are for when there are many problems every day.

Starter

0 ₽, no card

30 units of energy. One problem with an explanation takes 1–2 units, and follow-up questions cost almost nothing. Enough for a couple of weeks of homework.

All plans

Lite

₽690 a month

150 units of energy — for a term of daily problems, essays and presentations. If you need more, there are Basic at ₽990 (200 units) and Premium at ₽2,290 (600 units).

FAQ

Does the AI solve problems from a photo for free?

Yes, on the Starter plan with no payment and no card. You need to sign up so the chat keeps your photos and your solution history.

Which subjects are supported?

Maths and algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry, computer science, English and other languages. In the humanities the AI helps with an answer plan and text analysis.

What does it do with language exercises?

Fills in missing words, letters and punctuation with an explanation of the rule, parses sentences, checks an essay for mistakes and suggests how to rephrase.

Can I upload a handwritten problem?

Yes. Legible handwriting reads fine; complex formulas from a notebook are best repeated as text in the request to avoid mixing up subscripts.

Does the solution come right away?

The answer appears in the chat in 10–30 seconds. The AI writes out long multi-part problems in pieces, and you can ask it to continue.

Is this cheating?

It depends on how you use it. Copying the answer gives you nothing. Working through the explanation, asking for a similar problem and solving it yourself is the same as a tutor, only available any time.
