AI text translator online

Pick a language pair and a style, and a translation of the same letter appears on the right. Switch between “Literal” and “Natural” to see how a translation that understands context differs from a dictionary one.

Translation · English · natural

Hi Anna! Thanks for the quick reply. I’m afraid the shipment is slightly delayed – it’ll most likely go out on Thursday instead of Monday. I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully that’s the last hiccup!

A natural translation carries the meaning and the tone: idioms are replaced with what a person would actually say in English. Good for correspondence, articles and books.

The original’s tone

A translation that sounds like the original

The same phrase sounds different in a chat with a friend, a letter to a supplier and a contract. Name the style, and the translation hits the right register.

Literal

When every word matters

A contract, a device manual, a text to take apart in class. Also ask it to flag ambiguous spots: “where the translation is ambiguous, give options in brackets”.

Natural

When it needs to read easily

Correspondence, an article, a book chapter, a customer review. The AI replaces jokes and idioms with natural equivalents instead of translating them word by word.

Business

When a partner or client reads it

Polite greetings, neutral wording, no slang. You can be specific: “British English”, “for a Chinese supplier, without excessive pleasantries”.

Business correspondence

A letter in another language, even if you write in your own

There is no need to compose in the foreign language straight away. Write the gist in your own words, as you would tell a colleague, and ask for a business translation. If the letter is not written yet, start on the business letters page.

  1. Step 1

    The gist in your language

Who you are writing to, what you need, which dates, amounts and order numbers to mention.

  2. Step 2

    Business translation

The AI picks the greeting, polite phrasing and sign-off customary in business correspondence in that language.

  3. Step 3

    Back-translation

Ask for the finished letter to be translated back into your language – that way you know nothing got distorted.

Translate from a photo

Menu, sign, label – take a photo and ask

Phone photo of a café menu in Chinese to be translated by AI

How it works

Upload the picture to the chat and say what you need: “translate the menu and tell me which dishes have no pork”, “what does the medicine label say”, “translate this screenshot of my chat with the seller”.

The AI first reads the text, then translates it and, if you ask, explains it. Shoot small print up close and without glare. More on working with photos on the photo analysis page.

Comparison

How it differs from a dictionary translation

An online dictionary translates a word quickly. The AI in the chat understands the whole paragraph, and you can talk to the translation.

What it translates and what it doesn’t

Translates

Texts, letters, articles, manuals, book chapters, reviews, text from photos and screenshots. Languages – English, German, Chinese, Turkish, Spanish, French, Italian and many others. Paste a long document in parts into one dialogue and set a glossary in the first message.

Doesn’t translate

Audio, video and live speech – there are no such features. If you have a recording of a conversation, it needs a transcript first. Legally binding documents for a notary or a court are translated by a certified translator; the AI can help you understand the content.

Translated something and want to polish the result? There is a spelling check and paraphrasing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI translator really free?

Yes. Translation is a text scenario and works on the Starter plan with 30 units of energy. In TryChat only image generation is paid.

Which AI translates text best?

TryChat has several text models, including GPT and Claude. The default model is fine for everyday correspondence; for a difficult text you can compare two models’ translations in neighbouring dialogues.

Can I translate a whole document or PDF?

The most reliable way is to copy the text and send it in parts into one dialogue. The translation arrives as text in the chat, ready to paste into your document.

Does it translate from Chinese and Turkish?

Yes, as well as from German, Spanish and many other languages. For correspondence with a supplier, ask for a business style and a back-translation to check the meaning.

Can I translate text from a picture?

Yes: upload a photo or screenshot to the chat and ask for a translation. The sharper the picture, the more accurate the recognition.

Will it translate a video or a voice message?

No, TryChat does not translate audio or video. If you have a text transcript, paste it in and it will be translated like any other text.
